We are so excited for you to join Urban School! Right now is a challenging time for all of us who love going to school every day. Urban’s campus is currently closed due to the coronavirus. We have implemented what we call Virtual Urban – different, but still with collaborative classrooms, online affinity spaces and linked up lunchtimes (for club meetings or just with friends). We can’t wait to be back on campus and wanted to share with you this video of everyday life in the Urban community. We hope this shows you how much fun it is to be an Urban Blue. Whether you’re an athlete, an artist, a writer or a scientist, our goal is to inspire your passion for learning so that you may start exploring who you are and who you want to become.

We can’t wait to see you in the fall. Go Blues!

Welcome Class of 2024!

Congratulations New Blues and Families! We are thrilled to have you join the Urban community, and extend a very hearty welcome to our new Urban students! We look forward to joining with you in creating a memorable, challenging and successful high school experience for you and your family.

You now join a special community of students, parents/guardians, alumni and former parents from the school's 53-year history.

Over the next few months and until school begins on Monday, August 31, 2020, please consult this page for information and updates.

We understand that some students might have questions about academics and/or student life at Urban. Please email us at admissions@urbanschool.org and we will be happy to answer your questions or put you in touch with a current student (or teacher, parent/guardian or coach)!

And if you haven't had a chance to read it yet, please see your note from Head of School Dan Miller. He, along with all of us, are so happy to welcome you to Urban!

Course Signup Form Due April 7
Please review and complete the Freshman course signup form by next Tuesday, April 7. You will be asked to choose the particular math and language level that you believe is appropriate as an incoming 9th grader, as well as an art elective. You can read about all of the required courses for incoming students on the page, and on the email you received recently from Academic Dean Geoff Ruth.

Language and Math Level Placement
Incoming 9th graders who have previously taken Algebra 1 should take a math placement test to see which level of math is most appropriate for them. If a student's math placement test does not clearly point to a proper math placement, math teachers will also hold a short conversation with the student to better understand their mathematical thinking and get more clarity on the best placement. If students have prior experience in a language and want to be placed into Level 2 language, they also will need to take a language placement test. Language teachers will review the test results, and place students into the course that will best support their growth, success and learning in language. See the your note from Academic Dean Geoff Ruth for more details on testing information or visit the course signup page.

Coming Soon: Online Forms for Parents/Guardians
Within the next few weeks, we also will request that parents/guardians login to the Urban Parent Portal to complete the online student forms, including emergency release, medical history, field trip approval, etc. All forms at Urban are done once as incoming Freshman, and then updated annually or as needed.
