Spring Music Concert on April 14 at Herbst Theater
Posted 03/29/2018 04:57PM

Urban's performing arts department cordially invites you to attend the annual Spring Music Concert! The concert will be held on Saturday, April 14, starting at 5pm, at Herbst Theater, 401 Van Ness Avenue, at the War Memorial Building.

Performing will be the Chamber Orchestra, Urban Singers, and the Lab and Advanced Jazz Bands. The student musicians and the Department kindly request that the audience stay for the entire concert.

Urban's Advanced Jazz Band, under the direction of Scott Foster, will be performing an arrangement of Son De la Loma by Camilo Moreira Coro, a Cuban arranger.

Director David Boyce's Lab Jazz Band will be performing an arrangement of Fela Kuti's, Water No Get Enemy, which will highlight the band's swinging and grooving set.

The Chamber Orchestra will play music from Holst's The Planets, Rossini's Barber of Seville, and features concertos performed by Urban Seniors Nina C and Daniela M. The Orchestra will also be joined by the Urban Singers to perform a movement from Mozart's Requiem. Dana Sadava directs.

The Urban Singers Chorus with Director Brooke Steele will feature contemporary music by Eric Whitacre and a wailing soprano duet, as well as Spirituals and a folk song with some good old fashioned "hoe down" fun.
