Chris Gaggero

Chris Gaggero is a native San Franciscan. He attended school and played baseball at Holy Name, Saint Ignatius College Prep, Skyline College and the University of San Francisco. Chris received his AA from Skyline College in 1985 and his B.A. in Sports Administration from USF in 1987.

Chris began his baseball coaching career at Saint Ignatius College Prep in 1988. After a 22- year career with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, Chris returned to the high school level of coaching at Saint Ignatius in 2012 and 2013 where he was the head coach of the frosh baseball team. The frosh team won the WCAL in 2012. Chris also helped coach the Varsity team which won the CCS Baseball title that year. Chris spent the summers of 2013-2018 as the Wildcats summer baseball head coach in the Joe DiMaggio league. In 2017, the Wildcats were the Joe DiMaggio World Series runner up. In 2022, Chris spent one year coaching at Sacred Heart Cathedral on the frosh and Varsity levels as pitching coach. From 2023-2025, Chris was the pitching coach at University High School. University was the BCL champion all three years that Chris was on staff and were the Nor-Cal State runner up in 2023. Chris was also the head coach for the Presidio Baseball Academy during the summers of 2023-2025.

Chris’ first year with Urban School of San Francisco was as an assistant coach in 2026. The Urban team had its best year since 2002. The Blues were runners up in the North Coast Section tournament and participated in the Nor Cal State tournament for the first time in school history. Chris played three years of Varsity baseball at SI. He had a complete game victory in 1982 against Barry Bonds who was attending Serra High School. Chris was honorable mention WCAL all-league in 1983.

Chris played two years of baseball at Skyline College, where he was MVP of the league in 1984. Chris received the Phil Garlington Scholar Athlete Award and was named to the Baseball Hall of Fame at Skyline in 1985. After Skyline, Chris accepted a Division I scholarship to play baseball at the University of San Francisco. Chris was academic all- league player and one of top three hitters on the team in 1986. He was pitcher of the year in 1987. Chris is in the top ten all-time in pitching complete games at USF. After USF, Chris played semi-pro baseball and is in the Hall of Fame for the Ellis Brooks team.

Chris’ coaching philosophy is to prepare well, work hard and win; and to overall have fun. Chris is looking forward to leading this years’ Urban baseball team to a successful season.
