Back to School Night 2025

Dear Parents and Guardians:

On behalf of the Urban Faculty and Staff, it is my pleasure to invite you to our annual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. This evening will be an opportunity for you to hear from the Head of School, meet teachers, say hello to other Urban parents/guardians (note that students don’t attend this event), and gain insight into the mysteries of the school day.

The evening will begin with a welcome by Head of School Quinton Walker in the Salkind Center Gym (Oak Street/North Campus). Following the opening remarks, you will be meeting with your student’s advisor, who’ll give you a copy of your schedule, which you will follow for the rest of the evening through a series of abbreviated classes. In each class, teachers will offer you a window into what students experience every day. For those with more than one Urban student, you can proceed to your youngest student’s advising room and pick up any other student schedules from either reception desk.

Please make note of your student’s advising room, which you can find on this list. You will need this information to navigate the event.

Note that the advising room may be in any of our three school buildings.

  • Room numbers starting with “N” are in the Salkind Center (Oak Street/North Campus).
  • Room numbers starting with “S” are in Page (South) Campus.
  • Room numbers starting with “P” are in the Performing Arts and Community Center (PACC)

The final class time of the evening (8:15 - 8:30 pm) will be slated for the following E period classes: Urban Singers, Jazz Band, Chamber Orchestra, Journalism, and Yearbook. If your student is not enrolled in one of these E period classes, you are free to depart after D period at 8:05 pm, or stay and chat until we wrap things up at 8:30 pm.

Light refreshments will be available in the Page Campus and Salkind Center following the advising meeting and throughout the rest of the evening; feel free to grab a snack between classes.

The parking garage will be occupied by the faculty and unavailable for parent parking. There is street parking around the school, but do allow some extra time to find a spot. We strongly encourage you to consider using taxis, ride-share services, public transportation, or carpools. Remember that our block of Page is a designated slow street. There also is a pay lot on Stanyan at Beulah (next to Kezar), about a 10-minute walk from school.

One final note: the pacing of the evening is brisk, so this won’t be the time to raise questions specific to your student. You are always welcome to contact the Grade Dean with any individual questions or concerns.

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, September 25th.

Best regards,

Giselle Chow
Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning
