Dear Urban Community,

Like schools around the world, we want to make prudent decisions on behalf of the health and welfare of our community without adding to the anxiety many feel. Given the rapid and changing nature of the situation, and based on the very latest reports and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), we want to share the following guidelines about student and family travel over interterm break. These rules are effective at Urban immediately and will remain in place until changing circumstances require an adjustment.

• Any student, faculty or staff member who travels to or stops (including airport layovers where passengers leave the plane) in a country categorized by the CDC as Level 3 may not return to campus for 14 days following their return date, regardless of medical clearance. Currently, the list of CDC Level 3 countries includes the following: China, South Korea, Italy and Iran.

• This policy also applies to students, faculty and staff whose parents/guardians or other household members are traveling to a CDC Level 3 country.

• Any community member who travels to a CDC Level 2 country is asked to exercise extreme caution and to take extra care to monitor their health, including the consideration of self-isolation. Currently, Japan is the only CDC Level 2 country.

We continue to monitor the situation and will determine whether or not additional restrictions are in order. Thank you for your understanding. We wish everyone a healthy and restorative week.

Best regards,

Dan Miller
