All-Alumni Reunion Thank You

Thank you to all our alums, faculty and former faculty who joined us for last month's All-Alumni Reunion! The event kicked off with our annual Alumni Round Robin Basketball Tournament thanks to Alumni Council member Aidan Coffino ('08) who organized and ran the games. Congratulations to tournament winners Nate Cohen ('13), Asher King Abramson ('09) and Will Hammond ('87)!

Thank you also to Climate One at The Commonwealth Club's Greg Dalton (Kai '18) and Urban Dean of Academics and science teacher Geoff Ruth for the special Classes Without Quizzes. If you missed it, you can see and hear Greg and Geoff's discussion on today's climate emergency here.

And finally, thank you to Chris Ridley ('90) and Emily Volberding ('05) for the touching tribute to Mark Salkind ('70) during his final All-Alumni Reunion as Urban's Head of School. He loved his letterman jacket gift from the Alumni Association! We look forward to Mark's attendance at future reunions!

November and December Alumni Events

Mark your calendars for the remaining alumni events this calendar year!

Wednesday, November 21
Hoopsgiving - Alumni vs Varsity basketball games.
This year our teams play for a turkey trophy! Who will have the bragging rights for the year until the next Hoopsgiving contest? Boys varsity vs Alums ('08 - '18) play at 3:30 pm, and girls varsity vs Alums (all class years) play at 5 pm.
Players, please RSVP here to be added to the roster. We especially need women so our hard working varsity girls have the opportunity to play.

Thursday, December 21, from 7 - 9 pm
Alumni Holiday Happy Hour
Join us at Ezra Berman ('98)'s San Francisco Athletic Club. All Urban alums (21 and over) are invited to join us for light snacks, drinks, and catching up with old and new Urban friends and teachers. We'll collect RSVPs through the invitation that will be sent out this week. In the meantime - save the date!

Saturday, December 22 marks the return of the Alum vs Varsity Co-Ed Soccer Game! All former varsity soccer players are invited to join this friendly competition with our current boys and girls varsity teams. The game will be at Beach Chalet from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm, and spectators are welcome! Warm-ups from 11 - 11:30. RSVPs required.

Special Note from Marianne Evans, Urban's Director of
Alumni Relations

Dear Urban Alum Community,

As some of you know, Friday, November 16, will be my last day as Urban's Director of Alumni Relations. This news is bittersweet for me! After 7 1/2 years at Urban I feel like this school is my home and I am so grateful to have had a chance work with and get to know Urban's amazing alumni community. In early December I will be joining Aim High as its Deputy Director of Development but as the parent of an Urban alum and a current Urban student, I am so happy to stay connected to the Urban community.

Urban has begun a search for its next Director of Alumni Relations and I am pleased to share the job description here for a dynamic person excited to lead a comprehensive Alumni Relations Program. Please feel welcome to share the opportunity with your networks!

I look forward to staying in touch.

With gratitude,

Three Upcoming Alumni Performances Not to be Missed!

Watch Abigail Munn ('97) take flight on Treasure Island November 30 - January 6! Abigail, co-founder and executive director of Circus Bella, presents Kaleidoscope, a circus performance for all ages. The show includes everything from acrobats, aerialists and jugglers, to high wire artists and contortionists (with Abigail on trapeze)! The show features live music and a circus-themed menu and is perfect for a family holiday outing with Urban friends. Use the code URBANBLUES for 10% off your ticket purchase! Go here for tickets.

See and hear Maya Herbsman ('13), Samantha Kostick ('11), Susannah Martin ('89) in Short Cuts, comprising four 15-20 minute pieces, each an exploration of the director's curiosities, broken up by intermissions with free snacks. Maya's Valley of the Dead, is a queer/feminist retelling of the Persephone and Eurydice myths, featuring original music by Samantha Kostick ('11). Susannah Martin ('89) is directing Henrik Ibsen's Lady from the Sea. Read more about the show and the other two pieces here. It runs until November 18, and Urban community members can use the code VPPASS9 for 25% off!

Alyssa Mitchel ('11) was selected for ODC's 70th Pilot Program - a professional intensive for both emerging and mid-career Bay Area choreographers! Alyssa will be presenting her new work, Defining Intelligence, featuring five dancers and integrating the recorded audio/video interview responses of 26 Bay Area K-8 students, teachers, principals and professors. Alyssa is sharing the show with choreographers Charlotte Carmichael, Tanya Chianese, Marlene Garcia, Molly Matutat and Nadhi Thekkek. The performances will take place at ODC Dance Commons, Studio B Theater (351 Shotwell Street, SF, CA 94110) on Saturday, December 1, at 8 pm (reception to follow), and Sunday, December 2, at 4 and 7 pm.
