Admissions Welcomes You!

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for your interest in Urban! We hope you and your families are well during this time. Enrollment is now closed for the academic year 2021-22.

If you are a rising 8th grader, we cannot wait to meet you in a few months. Your role this fall is to look deeply at Urban to understand what’s most important and most enduring: our profound and lasting student-teacher relationships; an astonishing curriculum not found at any other high school in the Bay Area; a vibrant, inclusive community where students are encouraged to explore their identity and embrace diverse backgrounds, values and points of view; a place that values the vitality of adolescence and where students are encouraged to push boundaries, make mistakes, and become the person they want to be; and importantly, an abiding commitment to our mission – to ignite a passion for learning, both in high school and beyond.

Urban School believes there is a better way to educate high school students. Our approach has always been to teach our students how to think, not what to think. For 55 years, our educational innovations have ignited the minds of Urban graduates, who pursue their passion for learning at the nation’s best colleges, and who go out into the world uniquely equipped to solve the challenges their generation will face.

We hope you will explore Urban and get to know our community of high caliber, intentional students whose common goal is to learn and want to make a difference. We are currently determining what our application process will entail for the 2021-22 school year. Please circle back in the late summer to review those details! Our event scheduling goes live in early September. After creating your Ravenna-Hub account, you will be able to schedule events (after clicking Apply) and begin your application. We hope that you choose to take advantage of the many different ways to experience Urban!

For now, while we can’t replace experiencing first-hand the creative friction, energy and community warmth that pulses through Urban’s buildings and spaces, we are excited to show you what it’s like to be a Blue. Please check out the following:

Again, we're very excited to meet you in the fall and wish you a safe, happy summer. Go Blues!

NEWS FROM ADMISSIONS!

Urban will continue its policy of not using standardized test scores when evaluating students for admission to our extraordinary school.

This action further supports Urban’s longtime commitment to access and equity, and will help simplify and streamline the process for students and families applying to the school. Our application review process is holistic and comprehensive, and a student’s capacity for success at Urban can be showcased in a multitude of ways. We continue to value students with an enthusiastic approach to learning; a clear capacity for success in Urban’s innovative and rigorous academic program; and an affinity for our mission and deeply held core values. To our interested 8th graders: we are excited to learn more about you and what you will bring to Urban!
