Admissions Welcomes You!

Dear 8th Graders and Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for your interest in Urban! We are excited to share our community with you. This year, our admissions events have been designed to reflect our ongoing commitment to health and safety. Whether in person or online, we look forward to partnering with you and supporting you throughout the admissions process. We love connecting with you as you learn more about our school and why Urban believes there is a better way to educate high school students.

Urban’s approach has always been to teach our students how to think, not what to think.”

Your role this fall is to look deeply at Urban to understand what’s most important and most enduring: our profound and lasting student-teacher relationships; a rich and varied curriculum not found anywhere else in the Bay Area, driven by student interest and collaboration; a vibrant community where students can feel a sense of belonging and are encouraged to explore their identities while embracing diverse backgrounds, values and points of view; a place that values the vitality of adolescence and where students are encouraged to push boundaries, make mistakes, and become the person they want to be; and an abiding commitment to our mission, to ignite a passion for learning.

We hope you will explore Urban and get to know our community by creating your Ravenna-Hub account. Our event scheduling will go live on Friday, August 27, at noon, and you may schedule events after clicking “Apply.” All communication goes through the primary account email address, so please keep that in mind while setting up your account. As we move through the fall, spaces in our events tend to open up occasionally, so if you are unable to schedule your preferred date or if our events seem full, please continue to check Ravenna or reach out to us.

Please note that our admissions process and all events are for 8th graders entering 9th grade. Space for transfer students into grades 10 and 11 is limited, and is on an annual basis. We look forward to meeting 7th grade families next fall!

All of us at Urban send our best wishes for your successful 8th grade year. Please let us know if you or your family need any assistance (such as translation services, access needs, etc.) throughout the admissions season. Don't hesitate to reach out to us or any of our community members, and know that we will be with you every step of the way to guide you and your family through this exciting high school search process! There are many shades of Urban "Blue" and we hope you see yourself as one of them as you explore our school.
