Admissions Welcomes You!
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
We hope you and your family are well during these unpredictable and extraordinary times. As we enter the Fall 2020, it’s important to acknowledge that the process for exploring high schools this fall promises to be very different than what you may have expected or hoped for. All Admissions events will be amended to ensure your health and safety and held virtually. It’s also good to remember that your actual 9th grade year may look more “normal,” assuming the promise of a vaccine by then.
Your role this fall is to look deeply at Urban to understand what’s most important and most enduring: our profound and lasting student-teacher relationships; an incredible curriculum not found anywhere else in the Bay Area; a vibrant, inclusive community where students are encouraged to explore their identity and embrace diverse backgrounds, values and points of view; a place that values the vitality of adolescence and where students are encouraged to push boundaries, make mistakes, and become the person they want to be; and importantly, an abiding commitment to our mission, to ignite a passion for learning.
Urban teaches students how to think, not what to think."
Urban School believes there is a better way to educate high school students. Our approach has always been to teach our students how to think, not what to think. For more than half a century, our educational innovations have ignited the minds of Urban graduates, who pursue their passion for learning at the nation’s best colleges, and who go out into the world uniquely equipped to solve the challenges their generation will face.
All of us at Urban send our best wishes for your successful 8th grade year. Since we cannot meet you in person this season, we look forward to developing a connection with you virtually. Please let us know if you or your family need any assistance (such as translation services, access needs, etc.) during our admissions events or throughout the admissions season. Don't hesitate to reach out to us, and know that we will be with you every step of the way to guide you and your family through this exciting high school search process!

Chris Williams, Assistant Director of Admissions & Outreach Coordinator
Ken Chou ('14), Admissions Associate & Events Coordinator
