What Makes Urban Unique?

At Urban, we believe there’s a better way to do high school.

Here's what sets our approach apart:

  • We have three terms every school year (Fall, Winter, Spring) instead of two.

  • Students take only four core classes every term, not including homework-free electives.

  • These core classes have extended periods, between one and two hours, allowing time for college-like labs, deeper dives into coursework, more time in the art studio, and more field trips with a “city-as-classroom” ethos.

  • Instead of letter grades, students receive individualized, narrative feedback on assignments, with final A, B, C grades only at the end of the term (transcripts look like those of traditional high schools).

  • Our "UAS" Urban Advanced Studies classes are recognized as honors level courses at all colleges.

  • Students take art and service learning every year as part of their requirements.
