Urban Hosts Athletics Recognition Ceremony

Varsity and club team student-athletes and their families were invited to celebrate their seasons recently at the Athletics Recognition Ceremony in the Salkind Center Gym. Coaches and team captains honored their teams and players for the fall, winter and spring sports seasons. 

Some of the highlights include:

  • Boys basketball won North Coast Section (NCS) Championships, a first in Urban’s history.

  • All League Honors (ALH) certificates were presented to Urban athletes with Page S (‘24) receiving four separate honors. In total there were 17 First Team certificates and 22 Second Team (ALH students are voted in by all of the coaches in each league). Nate Y (‘23) also received League MVP for boys volleyball.

  • The boys tennis team made it to North Coast Section (NCS) Championships.

  • Three fencers placed in the top 10 at the state tournament.

  • Girls track and field placed second at the Stanford Invitational and third in Bay Counties League (BCL) Championships, qualifying for NCS.

  • The boys track team placed first at NCS for the 800-meter relay, qualifying for the League of Champions.

  • Boys volleyball had an undefeated league record and won the league championship. The team made it to the second round of NCS.

  • Girls soccer made it to the second round of NCS Championships.

  • Urban’s first girls golf team in the school’s history included a player who qualified for NCS Championships.

  • Sailing placed second in San Francisco City Championships and qualified for Gold Pacific Coast Championships, a first for Urban’s team.

  • Girls volleyball made it to the semifinals of NCS Championships and made it to the second round of the NorCal Tournament (the farthest Urban has ever been).

  • The Cross Country team made NCS.

Fencing coach Kathy Krusen is retiring after 20 years with Urban. She is an Urban legend in our athletic program and the fencing world. Kathy has led undefeated teams, as well as league, regional and state champions. She has coached seasoned fencing vets and many more newcomers to the sport and done so with grace, humility and fervor. Kathy, thank you for all you have done. You are a True Blue!
