Spring Music Concert

Sunday, May 16   •  5 pm

Urban students are pleased to share the annual Spring Concert production! Hear some spring-themed tunes from the Chamber Orchestra, Lab and Advanced Jazz Bands and Urban Singers. Just over half of the show was created virtually and each group will showcase a few songs that were performed live on campus. The concert features many graduating Seniors, as well as performances by students who are getting their first experience of in-person music making at Urban!

The Chamber Orchestra, with conductor Dana Sadava, will feature Warrior Legacy by Soon Hee Newbold, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto as well as pieces by Motzart and Schubert. The Urban Singers will perform Selene’s Boat, Bile Them Cabbage Down and Witness, under the direction of Brooke Steele.

The Lab Jazz Band is directed by David Boyce and features McCoy Tyner’s Contemplation and Work Song by Cannonball Adderley.

The Advanced Jazz Band will perform Red Door (Gerry Mulligan and Zoot Sims), Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most (Tommy Wolf), Lee Morgan’s Sweet Honey Bee and Jitterbug Waltz by Fats Waller. The Advanced Jazz Band is directed by Scott Foster.

Urban's new varsity baseball coach Oz Sailors was recently featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, showcasing her achievements in baseball as both a professional player and coach.

Oz knows a lot about firsts: she was the only woman in NCAA Baseball from 2011-2015, and the only woman to play in the Japanese Professional Women’s League (Kyoto Flora, 2019). Sailors is a two time member of the USA Baseball National Women’s Team, and played professionally or for national teams overseas in China, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, Venezuela and Taiwan, as well as in independent minor leagues in the US (Virginia Marlins and San Rafael Pacifics).
