Urban School Winter Music Concert

Student musicians in the Chamber Orchestra, Urban Singers, and the Lab and Advanced Jazz Bands have been working hard and look forward to performing live and in person for the entire community on Sunday, December 12, 5 pm, Herbst Theatre, 401 Van Ness Avenue. Purchase your tickets early here and upload your proof of vaccination for fast and easy entrance.
All attendees to this performance must wear masks at all times and show proof of vaccination (upload here).
The Chamber Orchestra, led by Joshua Feltman, will perform Syrinx Symphony by local composer Holly Mead, which imitates the natural soundscape of a forest canopy. Additional pieces include Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter (John Williams) and excerpts from The Four Seasons (Vivaldi), The Nutcracker (Tchaikovsky) and Trovatore (Verdi).
The Urban Singers, under the direction of Kelly Nash, will perform Let the River Run (arr. Craig Hella Johnson); Echo by Tom Shelton, featuring soloists Maddie T (’22), Callahan M (’22), Paget C (’22) and Evan R (’23); Sisi ni Moja by Jacob Narverud; Glow (Eric Whitacre) and a fun holiday arrangement of Jingle Bells!
Directed by David Boyce, the Lab Jazz Band honors a great woman in jazz, Alice Coltrane, by performing Ptah, The El Daoud, as well as Doxy by Sonny Rollins and Netsanet by Mulatu Astatke. The Bebop Combo performs Wayne Shorter’s Speak No Evil.
Urban’s Advanced Jazz Band led by Performing Arts Chair and Jazz Band Director Scott Foster highlights our Seniors performing Well You Needn’t and Ruby My Dear by Thelonious Monk. The band will also play Teaneck (Nat Adderley), The Squirrel (Tadd Dameron) and Flying Home (Lionel Hampton).
