Dr. Cornel West Keynotes Month of Understanding
Each January, Urban celebrates the Month of Understanding (MOU). Multiculti student leaders host daily events that give our community a chance to learn about one another and explore topics that come up in and outside of Urban. This year's theme, Our Community, recognizes the power of our community coming together and includes conversations, film screenings, panels and events on religion, sexuality, class and socio-economic status, racism, cultural appropriation, body image and more.
The broader Urban community, including parents/guardians, are invited to attend an MOU keynote event featuring Dr. Cornel West in conversation with Bakari Kitwana, as they discuss The Beloved Community: King Jr’s Vision, Democracy and Contemporary Challenges. Urban is co-hosting this special event with St. Ignatius College Prep and People of Color in Independent Schools (POCIS), on Tuesday, January 21, 7 pm, at St. Ignatius College Prep, 2001 37th Ave., San Francisco. The event is free but registration is required.
On campus, students and faculty/staff will hear from James King during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day all-school meeting. King is a motivational speaker and restorative justice activist.
