Urban Announces New Courses for 2013-14

Urban has announced that it will offer a number of new courses for the 2013-14 school year. According to Assistant Head for Academics Suzanne Forrest, the new courses include:

Astronomy

Entomology: Bugs & Biodiversity

UAS Advanced Physics: Waves & Light (previously Advanced Physics: Calculus Applications)

UAS Asian American History

Advanced Computer Programming/Computer Science 2

“Urban undoubtedly has the richest and most broad course offerings of any Bay Area high school,” says Forrest “Our unique block schedule gives us the flexibility to create and teach an unusually large number of specialized courses, advanced electives and creative arts courses usually found at the college level, but designed for high school students."

Students are currently reviewing and signing up for courses for the next school year. Urban offers 160 classes in math, science, language, history, English, performing and visual arts, service learning and health. The school’s faculty-created honors level courses, titled Urban Advanced Studies (UAS), have distinctive features setting them apart as particularly challenging and comprise the school's most rigorous coursework. UAS classes are offered in every subject area and the majority are recognized by colleges (including the University of California) as honors level courses.
