Welcome to Urban
Dear Rising 8th Graders and Families:
We are delighted that you are considering Urban in your high school search. Urban School believes there is a better way to educate high school students. For more than half a century, our educational innovations have ignited the minds of Urban graduates, who pursue their passion for learning at the nation’s best colleges, and who go out into the world uniquely equipped to solve the challenges their generation will face.
Urban teaches students how to think, not what to think. We seek students with an enthusiastic approach to learning and a clear capacity for success in a rigorous academic program. Urban’s extraordinary teachers challenge our 420 students with a college preparatory curriculum in math, science, arts and humanities with comprehensive service learning and competitive athletics programs, and a rich selection of co-curricular activities.
For more in-depth information and to stay up-to-date on Urban, please check out the following:
- our social media page, filled with pictures from our Instagram and Facebook accounts, blogs from our Student Admissions Committee, librarian and College Counseling.
- the Urban Curriculum Guide includes descriptions about our programs and courses.
- our technology page, including details about our Urban XLabs, BlendEd courses, and more!
We invite 8th graders and their families to spend some time exploring Urban to learn more about our remarkable community. We recommend creating a Ravenna-Hub account this summer to familiarize yourself with Ravenna. All application steps, details, and components are located on our admissions site, Ravenna, and are submitted through your Ravenna-Hub account.
Our admissions process begins August 22, 2017, at noon. After creating your account, you will be able to explore Urban and schedule events to visit our campus (AFTER clicking the green button that says, Apply) and begin your application. We will host student visits starting mid-September, Open Houses, Parent Information Sessions, and optional Student Interviews starting in October, and our annual Diversity Night at the beginning of November. We hope that you opt to take advantage of these opportunities to experience Urban and our strong, inclusive community!
Please note that our admissions process and admission events are meant for 8th graders entering 9th grade. Space for transfer students into grades 10 and 11 is very limited, and is on a spot-by-spot, annual basis (we do not accept mid-year transfers or rising Seniors). If you are interested in applying for grades 10 or 11, please contact the Admission Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 415 593 9555. We look forward to meeting 7th grade families in 2019, and you are welcome to experience Urban at any of our athletic events, musical concerts or drama performances. Go Blues!
We hope you have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to guiding you and your family through this exciting process in the fall!
