Welcome Class of 2021 - You Are Our New Blues!

Urban has recently augmented our 2017-18 academic schedule by adding a U period. There are two U periods per term, U1 and U2. These periods are designed to let students explore new activities and interests, and to create space for co-curricular programming, such as mindfulness, well-being, and for incoming 9th graders, our Inside Urban course. The 1-hour long, weekly U2 period is reserved for students to explore new passions, take a break from the regular academic week and work, and to get to know new teachers and students. U2 periods are non-credit, have no assigned homework, and are multi-age (meaning all grade levels in the same course). We are asking you to complete THIS SURVEY for fall term (due Friday, May 26). Please note that for students who have registered for the Intro to Chamber Orchestra, Choir or Jazz Band DO NOT need to complete this form, as music ensembles meet during U2. Music students will be able to take an elective in winter / spring terms.

Urban Librarian Sarah Levin and her Library Readers have announced an exiting new summer reading program. Students choose one book from among 30 titles. Each of these titles is sponsored by Urban faculty, staff or a member of Library Leaders. You will pledge to read one of these books over the summer. In the fall once school begins, we'll convene the reading groups to have a book club-style meeting that will last about an hour. We hope this program will promote reading for fun, inter-grade camaraderie, and a chance to meet more Urban community members early in the year. Fill out this form, noting which books you'd be interested in reading. Reading groups will be limited to 16 readers, so we're asking to rank your top five book choices. Please fill out the form by May 19th. I will let you know which book you'll be reading by May 31. Students on financial aid will be mailed a copy of their assigned book by mid June.

UrbanWear and BluesWear
UrbanWear and BluesWear, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, scarves, mugs and more are available for order online. Items can be picked up at the front desk 48 hours after ordering. We will also have a store at the New Freshman Welcome event on April 29. Go Blues!
