Urban's 1:1 Laptop Program

Welcome!

Urban is a pioneer in integrating technology into academics. Schools from around the world look to us to learn how to create their own technology programs. Urban’s approach to technology is purposely holistic: technology skills and related computer projects are integrated throughout the daily curriculum to foster active, studentcentered learning. At Urban, technology is used to enhance communication, collaboration, organization and production in all classes, rather than being taught as a discrete subject.

This section of the Urban website serves as a resource for students and families involved in the Student Laptop Program. Our program began in the fall of 2000 when all faculty were issued Apple iBooks to begin development of technology-integrated curriculum. Now entering our ninth year of the program, all students, teachers and staff members have their own school-provided laptops.

Come see us! Mercedes, Igor and Howard are available to help students throughout the day, but we encourage drop-in visits to the Tech Office during lunch.

Mercedes should be the first point of contact when students think there is a problem with their laptop.

The Tech Support website continues to expand with multiple directions and tips for student users. Much of the material posted is in response to student or faculty questions.

Tech Support email is the destination to field questions and to report technical problems. Several knowledgeable students read and respond to questions, as well as Mercedes, Igor and Howard. Parents are also encouraged to send inquiries but please confine your requests to issues related to our Laptop Program.
