Join our student musicians for the annual Winter Combos Concerts on Wednesday-Thursday, February 1-2, in the Gumption Theater.
On Wednesday, February 1, the Urban Singers choir combos and the Chamber Orchestra will perform at 4:30 pm and at 7 pm. The singing groups include an acapella group singing a couple of numbers from the Pentatonix; a small group singing Beach Boys' God Only Knows and a spiritual; the Testostertones (an acafella group) doing a piece from Lord of the Rings; and the musical theater students singing a piece from Mathilda as well as solo songs. Four small groups featuring musicians from Urban's Chamber Orchestra will play a number of classical pieces, including one from Carmen, a Celtic song trio with harp, and a number of other classical standards.
On Thursday, February 2, Urban's Jazz Combos will play at 4:30 pm and at 7 pm, The Freshman Combo will perform Herbie Hancock's Cantaloupe Island, and the Blues Combo will do Charlie Parker's Yardbird Suite and Nutville from Horace Silver. The Bebop Combo will perform Silver's Hippy and other pieces from their expanding repertoire, and the Modern Jazz group will do Black Nile from Wayne Shorter and Clifford Brown/Max Roach's Delilah.
Tickets are free but reservations are strongly recommended, as the theater does fill quickly. Please go here to reserve your seat. Reservations are limited to 6 per family per show.
Parking is available for both performances, both days, in the Salkind Center parking garage. The 4:30 pm shows have parking available in the white spaces in the Salkind Center parking garage. Please do not park in any spaces that have green outlining, which are reserved for St. Agnes Church. The garage will be open for parking between 4 and 4:30 pm.
The 7 pm shows have parking available in any space in the Salkind Center parking garage EXCEPT the green spaces on the lower level that are marked "St. Agnes Parking 24hours/day, 7 days per week." The garage will be open for parking between 7 and 7:30 pm.
