Affording an Urban Education

For many families, the cost of an independent secondary education may seem overwhelming at first. To assist families in making this important investment in their child's future, Urban has developed several payment options, including monthly payments, a loan program, and a financial aid program.

The Urban School of San Francisco awards financial aid on the basis of proven need and the availability of funds. Financial aid decisions are made independently from admissions decisions and in no way affect a candidate's chances for admission. Once admitted, candidates for financial aid are referred to the Financial Aid Committee to determine the aid award.

For more information, please see the copy of Affording an Urban Education in your admissions packet, or download a copy here.

2011 Financial Aid Deadlines

Financial aid information packets will be mailed out in early December. You may request a financial aid packet when completing your online inquiry or by contacting the Admissions Office.

All families must complete a Parents Financial Aid Statement (PFS) and submit it to School and Student Services (SSS) by NAIS. Families may complete the PFS online at http://sss.nais.org or contact the Urban Admissions office for a hard copy of the PFS.

Custodial and noncustodial parents must follow these steps:

By Thursday, January 13, 2011

1) Complete the PFS online or mail a hard copy of the PFS to:

School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS)
Application Processing Center
P.O. Box 449
Randolph, MA 02368-0449

Please name The Urban School as recipient. School Code: 7861

2) Send a photocopy of your completed 2009 Tax Form 1040, 2009 W-2s, and all related schedules, as well as a signed copy of IRS form 4506 to SSS.

3) Complete The Urban School financial aid form and 2011 Family Budget Plan and then mail to The Urban School of San Francisco.

The Financial Aid Committee also welcomes letters clarifying a family’s financial situation.

By Tuesday, February 15, 2011

4) Send a photocopy of your completed 2010 Tax Form 1040 with all related schedules, as well as copies of 2010 W-2s to SSS at the address listed above.

Failure to meet these deadlines will jeopardize a family’s chance of receiving aid.

We are happy to assist any family in completing the PFS form. Please contact the Admissions Office with any questions or visit http://sss.nais.org for more information and helpful tips and tools.

When will decisions about financial aid awards be made?
Notice of financial aid decisions will accompany letters of acceptance to The Urban School, which will be mailed March 17, 2011.

Gearing Up for Fall!
by Lizzy H ('12)

After a rather stressful spring term, I was super excited for a nice and relaxing summer. The first six weeks of summer, I was enrolled in an online creative writing course. It was a really good experience – I absolutely love creative writing. The lectures were actually fun to read, and I think the feedback system definitely helped me improve. I also met a few people from the East Coast...read more.

Expecting the Best

As I head in to my last few weeks of summer vacation, I can’t help but be amazed by the fact that I will soon be starting my last year here at Urban. It certainly does not feel like three years ago that I anxiously awaited my first day of high school. As I hesitantly stepped out of the car to walk into school on the first day of my freshman year, I had absolutely no idea what the next few years had in store for me. Each day of school has brought with it excitement and...read more.
