Alumni Holiday Party

We hope you can join us on Tuesday, December 15, from 6 - 8 pm for our fourth annual Alumni Holiday Happy Hour! All Urban alums and their guests are invited to join us at The Interval, a bar, cafe, museum and home of The Long Now Foundation in San Francisco’s Fort Mason. Enjoy a hosted bar and hors d’oeuvres surrounded by books floor-to-ceiling, mechanical wonders from a clock engineered to last 10,000 years and a light and sound installation designed by Brian Eno. The Interval was featured last summer in 7x7's Nightlife Guide 2015. Special thanks to Alexander Rose ('90), Executive Director of The Long Now Foundation for this incredible venue! This event is all ages. We're looking forward to seeing you! Click here to RSVP.

Recent Grad Reunion for the Classes of 2011 - 2015

Please join us in the Old Library and enjoy refreshments while catching up with your Urban friends, teachers and this year's Juniors and Seniors. We would love to see you! Wednesday, January 6, from 3 - 4:30 pm. RSVP here.

UrbanReads: Frances Dinkelspiel (’77) in Conversation with Julia Flynn Siler

On Sunday, January 10, from 4 - 6 pm, Urban parents, alums and alum parents are invited to come together for an evening of true crime, history and wine. In her new book Tangled Vines: Greed, Murder, Obsession, and an Arsonist in the Vineyards of California (click here for details), Urban alum Frances Dinkelspiel (’77) explores the dark side of California wine. Tangled Vines has been getting wonderful reviews and is a NY Times best seller. Frances will be discussing her book in conversation with current Urban parent and author Julia Flynn Siler. Julia is the author of another great wine story, The House of Mondavi: The Rise and Fall of an American Wine Dynasty. The UrbanReads event starts with a reception in the Gumption courtyard with wine and nibbles followed by what promises to be a fascinating discussion in the theater. To RSVP, click here.

Pacific Northwest Reunion

Dan Murphy and Jonathan Howland invite all our Pacific Northwest alums and their guests to join them and other members of Urban for a reception at Xico Upstars in Portland, OR, on Saturday, February 6, from 6 – 8 pm. Enjoy an evening of relaxing conversation, cocktails and delicious food as you connect with faculty and friends old and new. We hope you can make it! Click here to RSVP.

Southern California Reunion

We’re planning a trip to Los Angeles on Saturday, June 4, 2016! If you are interested in helping us plan a reception for alums and their guests please email us.

To Me, To Be Urban is....

To be Urban is to be unfinished. To be Urban is to be in a state of steady and stimulating expansion and growth - all the livelong day, indeed all the livelong life.

-- Jonathan Howland, Dean of Faculty and English Teacher

What does it mean to Be Urban? We hope you enjoy this year's Annual Fund video and seeing Urban teachers bring to life what it means to Be Urban, with students in the classroom, art studios, athletic fields and beyond. Each and every aspect of Urban's innovative program is supported by the Annual Fund and every donation makes a significant difference in ensuring that teachers, students and programs have the resources they need to thrive and Be Urban. If you would like to make a gift or pledge to Urban's Annual Fund, please click here. Thank you!

Blueprint for the Future and Alumni Blues Lounge

The ground (street) level concrete flooring on the new Academic and Athletics building was poured early last week. If you take a look at the construction cam you can actually imagine parking on this level or the one below it! A huge shoutout to Plant Construction and its subcontractors who are working rain or shine to get the new facility built by Fall 2016. Thank you once again to all our 320+ alumni challenge donors for making this project a reality. We can't wait to see you all in the Alumni Blues Lounge!

from the alumni council

What fun to see so many alums last week for our '90s Reunion. For those of you who made it out, thank you for joining us. For those of you who couldn't be there, we missed you and you were there in spirit. To check out the pictures visit our photos and fun stuff section of the alumni website.

A few reminders:

1) Next year is Urban's 50th Anniversary. We want to gather the tribes! If any Urban friends with whom you stay in touch aren't getting mail or email from the school, they should send their contact info to alumni@urbanschool.org.

2) It's not too late to support construction of Urban's new Academic and Athletics Center (and have your name join others on the wall in the Alumni Blues Lounge: 320+ alums and counting...)

3) If you're interested in getting involved with the Urban Alumni Council (it's fun!), contact LeRoy Votto or email the Alumni Office.

4) To snag Urban Gear (perfect holiday gifts!), visit the UrbanWear Spirit Store

Happy Holiday season to you and yours from the Urban Alumni Council and I hope to see you at the Holiday Happy Hour next week!
